UPDATE: Coroner’s Office Identifies Man Shot During ‘Robbery Homicide’

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was shot by an office manager after a Sept. 7 armed robbery of a computer store in Carpentersville.
The deceased was identified Friday as Kenyon R. Slater, 37, of Chicago, after an autopsy was performed on Thursday, Sept.8, 2016, at the Kane County Morgue The Coroner’s Office determined the preliminary cause of death as “multiple gunshot wounds.”
The Carpentersville Police Department is investigating a “robbery homicide” that took place at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 7, 2016) at Oscarin’s Computer, 1646 Ravine Lane, Carpentersville.
According to police and multiple media reports, the manager of Oscarin’s Computer shot one of two armed men who had reportedly robbed the store Wednesday night.
Carpentersville Police Chief Michael Kilbourne said during a news conference Thursday that two unmasked armed men bound several victims using plastic ties and struck one employee in the head with a pistol, according to a Daily Herald report.
The owner of the computer store told WGN Thursday that the men were about to escape with $15,000 when the store manager broke free from his ties, followed the men out of the store with a gun and fired at the alleged robbers.
Media reports said the store manager shot one of the suspects, who later died at a nearby hospital.
A second robber fled in a car driven by a third suspect, police said.
None of the victims were hurt, according to reports.
