City of Elgin: Alternate Routes Advised for Route 20 Drivers Exiting Route 25
Moving into the month of October, road and sewer projects continue as a part of the Investing in Elgin campaign.
The top traffic alert this week is that drivers on IL Route 20 wishing to exit at IL Route 25 should plan for backups and delays. The work is part of the Bluff City Boulevard project area, where traffic will be reduced to one lane at times during construction hours to accommodate sanitary sewer installation.
Flaggers will be used to control traffic. The city of Elgin advises taking alternate routes.
Bluff City Combined Sewer Separation
Crews will continue working on installing sanitary sewer on the Bluff City Boulevard Sewer Project. One crew will complete the sewer installation along Liberty Street and Dwight Street, and another crew will continue connecting sanitary sewer services from residences and businesses to the new sanitary sewer along Bluff City Boulevard from St. Charles Street to Raymond Street.
A third crew will work to replace curb and gutter as well as install pavement patches throughout the project area. Daily lane closures and flaggers should be expected.
Downtown Elgin
Concrete will be poured for new sidewalks on Chicago Street between the Metra railroad tracks and the Metra driveway, as well as on the southwest corner of the Chicago Street and Riverside Drive intersection. Grading will occur on the sidewalk located at the southeast quadrant of Chicago Street and State Street sidewalk overlay will be poured on the south side of the Highland Street bridge.
South Street Extension Nears Completion
The city of Elgin will celebrate the completion of the South Street extension during a ribbon-cutting ceremony tentatively set for Saturday, Oct. 29. An announcement will be made in the coming days.
All trees and nearly all of the associated irrigation has been installed along South Street and Londonderry. Water main, storm sewer are nearly complete, with final inspections and structure adjustments expected to be addressedat the end of the project.
Traffic detector loops were installed at the South Street and Randall Road traffic signals. Curb, sidewalk and the initial layer of pavement are installed throughout most of the project.
This week, crews will continue to work on street lights, install the final storm sewer and work on curb and gutter at the Target entrance.
