Creepy Clowns Making Appearances in Kane County
Kane County isn’t immune to the creepy clown sightings that have been reported throughout the western suburbs.
The Carpentersville Police Department Facebook Page says the department has received “several calls for service reporting clowns in different parts of town.”
“There have been no acts of violence related to any of these calls, and it’s not against the law to be dressed as a ‘clown,’ but there is a chance that one of these ‘clowns’ (is) going to run up to someone who isn’t amused by their act, and the clown is going to get hurt,” the post says.
The Police Department post goes on to ask moms and dads:
- Do you know where your kids are tonight?
- Do you know if your son or daughter have left the house with a clown mask or costume?
“At some point, we are afraid that one of these ‘clowns’ are going to scare the wrong person and come out on the losing end of the joke,” the post concludes.
Creepy clowns recently were reported in Lake County, and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office recently released these simple safety tips:
- If you see someone dressed as a clown behaving suspiciously, call 911 immediately to have police investigate the incident.
- Do not confront any individuals dressed as clowns and always maintain a safe distance.
- If you are being harassed or followed, go to a public place where there are other people and call 911.
Kane County Sheriff’s Office Administrative Director Lt. Pat Gengler said he heard a call reported Thursday in Campton Hills, but the Sheriff’s Office has not been inundated with creepy clown sightings.
Gengler’s advice to Kane County residents is “see something, say something” — that is, to make sure you report crime or suspicious activity to your local police department or to the Sheriff’s Office if the suspicious activity is in an unincorporated area.
“We always want people to call us when something or someone is suspicious,” he said. “It may turn out it be nothing, but it could be an incident we need to look into.”
