Motorcyclist Killed in Crash With Semi on Aurora’s Far East Side

A 39-year-old Naperville motorcyclist was killed early Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with a semi on Aurora’s Far East Side.

At 6:39 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2016), Aurora police responded to the crash at Commons Drive and Gabrielle Lane in the DuPage County portion of the city. The preliminary investigation indicates that Johnny R. Williams of the 2800 block of Kilburne Lane, Naperville, was driving his 2000 Suzuki GX6 south on Commons Drive, apparently at a high rate of speed, while a 2002 Volvo tractor-trailer truck driven by a 49-year-old Aurora man was turning into the driveway of the U.S. Post Office, 3900 Gabrielle, from the northbound left-hand-turn lane.

Williams, who was wearing a helmet, was taken by Aurora Fire Department paramedics to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora and was pronounced deceased at 7:18 a.m.

The driver of the semi was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

An autopsy on Williams is pending at the Kane County Coroner’s Office. There were no outward signs of alcohol or drug use at the scene.

Investigators from the Aurora Police Traffic Division were assisted by troopers from the Illinois State Police.

This is the first motorcycle fatality reported by area law enforcers since a rash of seven fatalities between July 2 and Aug. 10.
