• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

Chunk and Olive are two tortoiseshell guinea pigs approximately 2-years-old. They were surrendered together to Kane County Animal Control by their owner, and they’re looking for their forever home.

Just because they’re small doesn’t mean they won’t bring their new family all the joy and love a larger pet might bring. Did you know that guinea pigs can be taught to stand on their hind legs and spin around and jump, as well as other tricks? Did you also know that guinea pigs are extremely smart and if not handled and socialized enough, can show signs of depression?

Guinea pigs love human interaction and enjoy a good challenge with a labyrinth made out of boxes or oatmeal containers.

Chunk and Olive enjoy each other’s company, and it’s the hope of KCAC staff that they are able to be adopted together. They’re still a bit shy with strangers, so we also hope their new family will spend time with these the happy little guinea pigs.

• Freddy, a mostly white kitten that looks as though someone has filled in his nose and ears with black paint, found his forever family last week. Congratulations, Freddy!
• Sadie, a 9-month-old pit/lab mix found her forever home and is quickly learning the ropes of having a big brother! Here’s to having the best life you can have, Sadie!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinem including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
