South Street between Western Avenue and Burgess Road in Geneva is scheduled to be closed the week of Oct. 17 so underground utility connections can be made to the new Cooper Woods subdivision.

The road will be shut down from 7 a.m. into the evening Monday to Friday, Oct. 17 to 21, weather permitting, to connect the new homes to sanitary and water main infrastructure. Geneva’s permitted construction hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, but the city anticipates the construction zone will be cleaned up and reopened to traffic each night well in advance of the evening deadline.

Detour signs will be posted informing motorists heading east on South Street to use the following route:

  • North on Burgess Road,
  • Northeast on Kaneville Road,
  • East on James Street,
  • South on Seventh Street, and
  • West on South Street to Western Avenue.

The detour directions will be reversed for drivers heading north on Western Avenue. Flaggers will be present at the intersection of Western Avenue and South Street to help direct traffic around construction equipment. Please use caution when driving through the area.

For more information about the project, call the Geneva Public Works Department at 630-232-1501.
