YOLO! So Be Drug Free and Enter the Sheriff’s Office Red Ribbon Week Art Contest

YOLO (You Only Live Once), Kane County students, so be drug free and take part in the Red Ribbon Week events in Kane County, IL.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is joining with schools throughout the county to promote and support Red Ribbon Week, which takes place from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, There are a number of new events this year, including the Sherriff’s Office Red Ribbon Week art contest for elementary school, middle school and high school students.

bigribbonThe red ribbon is a symbol of an intensive community campaign to raise awareness against and combat alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse in young adults across the country.

The National Family Partnership sponsors Red Ribbon Week, and the 2016 campaign theme is “YOLO (You Only Live Once), Be Drug Free.” The theme was selected by the NFP from student submissions from across the country. The YOLO theme helps educate youth on the serious affects drug abuse has in the family and the community at large.

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging teachers and students to get involved in the 2016 campaign by wearing red ribbons as a symbol of a drug-free lifestyle, by taking part in their school’s Red Ribbon Week activities and by encouraging students to enter the 2016 Sheriff’s Office Red Ribbon Week art contest.

How to Enter the Contest

Students of all ages can express their creative side by making a Red Ribbon Week work of art. The contest is open to students in three categories: elementary school students, middle school students and high school students.

Red Ribbon Campaign artwork may be created in any variety of artistic mediums and include elements of the theme relating to alcohol, tobacco and drug-free lifestyles. Submitted artwork should be in a format that is no smaller than 8 ½ inches by 11 inches. The artwork can be a drawing, painting, collage, graphic design, digital photograph or a mixed medium.

Red Ribbon Campaign artwork entries should be submitted to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, through Friday, Oct. 21, 2016. The Sheriff’s Office is located on the Kane County Judicial Center campus, at 37W755 Illinois Route 38 in St. Charles, about ¼ mile west of Randall Road at the intersection of Peck Road.

The Sheriff’s Office will judge the entries and award the top student artwork in each category with a trophy. Red Ribbon Week artwork will be exhibited at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the announcement of the winners, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office will host a special presentation to honor the winners, at a date to be announced.
