Two teenagers were killed Saturday after a Montgomery teen’s pickup collided with a semi truck at the intersection of Meredith Road and Beith Road in unincorporated Virgil Township.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at around 5 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 5, 2016) for an initial report of a crash in which one vehicle was on fire and live power lines were downed in the roadway.

The initial investigation indicates a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Arthur Stenger, 16, of Montgomery was westbound on Beith Road and stopped at the stop sign for the intersection with Meredith Road, when it pulled into the intersection and was struck by a 1979 Peterbuilt semi hauling corn and driven by Jack Krueger, 60, of Burlington.

The semi did not have to stop, and the reason the S-10 pulled into the intersection is unknown, the Sheriff’s Office said.

After the vehicles collided, they rolled over and took out a utility pole and power lines near the intersection, reports said. Stenger and his passenger, Elijah Vajgert 16, of Maple Park were pronounced deceased at the scene. Krueger was treated and released at the scene.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the crash. No tickets were issued at the time of the crash.

The intersection of Meredith Road and Bieth Road was closed during the investigation of the crash and as ComEd repaired the power lines.

At 4:06 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, the Kane County Coroner’s Office issued a news release saying that autopsies have been conducted and toxicology samples were sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis, but the identities of the two deceased subjects were still in question. “Due to the condition of the remains, no positive identification can be made until dental records can be obtained,” the release said.

At around 2:32 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, the Coroner’s Office emailed a release saying a dental ordontologist had examined the bodies and dental records and confirmed the identities of the deceased.
