A St. Charles man has been sentenced to prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his employer.

Adam R. Gornowich, 32, of the 100 block of Walnut Drive,  St. Charles, was sentenced Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, by Circuit Judge James C. Hallock to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

On Sept. 1, 2016, Gornowich pleaded guilty to theft, a Class 1 felony. Judge Hallock accepted the plea.

During the plea and sentencing hearings, Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Seberger told the court that between June 2011 and December 2014, when Gornowich was employed by a business in the 2300 block of Dean Street,  St. Charles, he made unauthorized purchases of items for personal use with a total value of at least $353,000 using a company credit card that he had permission to use.

After the employer reported the unlawful purchases to police, Gornowich admitted his crimes.

In addition to the prison sentence, Gornowich was ordered by the court to pay more than $353,000 in restitution to the victim.

According to Illinois law, Gornowich is eligible for day for day credit. He receives credit for 593 days served in the Kane County jail, where he had been held since his arrest in lieu of $100,000 bail.
