A recent spate of vehicle burglaries is leading to some home invasions, as burglars use garage-door remotes from unlocked cars to enter homes.

Add North Aurora to the list of communities that has seen a a car-burlgary uptick in recent weeks. Geneva and St. Charles saw a combined 27 vehicle burglaries in a matter of about five days in late October.

Vehicle burglaries, which often escalate in Kane County communities during the summer months, has been high this fall as the unseasonable warm weather continues.

On Tuesday (Nov. 8, 2016), the North Aurora Police Department received several reports of burglaries to motor vehicles. In each instance, unauthorized entry was made to vehicles that were unlocked while parked in their respective driveways.  In two of the reports, the offender then opened the home’s garage door remotely from the burglarized vehicle, and in one instance made entry to the home.

Each of the incidents occurred during under the cover of night, likely after midnight.

The North Aurora Police Department is reminding residents of the importance of keeping vehicles and homes locked, and to immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
