When the Kane County Division of Transportation needed to get the word out fast that there would be a closing of major thoroughfares throughout the county due to emergency rail repairs, Kane County Connects was there to help.
“All agencies involved understand the significance of this road closure,” Kane County Division of Transportation officials said in a Tuesday news release. “Unfortunately, the urgency and nature of the repairs allows for few alternatives and very short notice to address this critical safety issue.”
The Canadian National Railroad closed Randall Road on Monday, June 20, to make emergency repairs at the rail crossing about 1/3 mile south of Hopps Road in South Elgin. Randall Road in that area stayed closed through Tuesday, and additional lane closures followed on Thursday, when additional work was needed to smooth out the grade level of the road.

One of the differences between KCC and previous outreach initiatives is that we now have the ability to reach people quickly. The frequency and popularity of the daily e-newsletter partnered with the reach of social media and traditional media means government information has a vehicle — no pun intended, considering the subject matter of this story — to get the word out. This is service we simply could not have provided as efficiently and effectively two years ago.
