Aurora police have secured a charge of attempted aggravated robbery on a 44-year-old man who allegedly tried to stickup a Near East side bakery on Oct. 26.

Willett is accused of entering the bakery in the 200 block of Jackson Street around 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, and implying he had a weapon before demanding money from two female workers. When one of the females became scared and ran to the back of the store, Willett allegedly turned around and ran out of the bakery without any proceeds. There were no injuries in the incident.

During the course of the investigation, Aurora police detectives received information that pointed to Willett’s alleged involvement in the attempted robbery, and they secured probable cause to arrest him. At about 12:41 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, a patrol officer spotted Willett walking in the area of River Street and North Avenue and took him into custody without incident.

The charges against Willett are not proof of guilt. He is all presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
