You’ve heard of the 12 Days of Christmas — 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, golden rings, partridge, that sort of thing.

Now we’ve got the eight days of December. Those special days are when you can see the beautiful 1857 Tanner House Museum up close and personal in free, self-guided holiday tours, beginning Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016.

The home of the prominent William and Anna Tanner family, now owned and operated as a house museum by the Aurora Historical Society, is decorated for the holidays each year by volunteer decorators and designers. This year the participants are Claudia Randolph (parlor), Scott Sherwood (library), Beverly Robinson of Trinity Flowers and Gifts (upstairs bedroom), Mary Clark Ormond (dining room), Barbed Wire Betties roller derby team (downstairs bedroom), Surekha and Ankita Pal (sitting room), Patti Baroni (kitchen) and Pauline Fohrman (master bedroom).

The house will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays. Sunday dates are Dec. 11 and Dec. 18.  Wednesday dates are Dec. 14, 21 and 28. Friday dates are Dec. 16, 23 and 30. The house will be closed on Christmas Day.

The Tanner House Museum is located at 304 Oak Ave., at the corner of Oak Avenue and Cedar Street in the Tanner Historic District.
