Dog Rescued But Family Displaced After Tuesday House Fire in North Aurora
The quick action of a neighbor saved a family dog but a family of four is likely to be without a home for the holidays after a house fire erupted Tuesday in a quiet neighborhood southeast of the intersection of South Randall and Orchard roads.
According to a North Aurora Fire Department news release, firefighters responded at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2016) to a structure fire at 803 Magnolia Drive and saw heavy fire coming from the second floor.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but the family dog was trapped inside. Fire officials said a neighbor kicked in the front door prior to Fire Department’s arrival, and the dog escaped without injury.
North Aurora firefighters — with assistance of fire crews from Aurora, Fermilab, Batavia, Sugar Grove, Elburn, Geneva and Naperville — were able to extinguish the fire within about an hour.
Fire officials estimated the loss at $100,000 to $150,000.
The cause is under investigation, but fire officials said an unattended candle may have been the source.
Media reports said a family of four was displaced following the fire.
The fire was witnessed by many drivers, including Joe Glaser of St. Charles, who emailed the images you see in this article. Glaser said he took the photos sometime between 5:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. from the intersection of Orchard Road and Randall Road.
