Elgin again led Kane County snowfall totals for the weekend, according to stats provided by the National Weather Service Chicago.

The “City in the Suburbs” recorded 5.8 inches of white stuff for the two-day period prior to 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.

A second Elgin site recorded 3.9 inches. St. Charles was next, with 3.4 inches and Geneva recorded 3.3 inches.

The forecast for Monday, Dec. 19, includes a Wind Chill Advisory until 10 a.m. It will be sunny, with a high near 12 degrees and wind chill values as low as minus 31. South southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will increase to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

• The highest snowfall totals from Saturday night were in far northwest Indiana, where an intense lake effect band produced up to 9 inches of snow in and near Portage, IN, and other parts of northern Porter County.
• The official snowfall for Chicago from Dec. 16-18 was 3.4 inches observed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.  (1.2 inches on Friday, 2.2 inches on Saturday night).
