Holiday Hours for Kane County Electronics Recycling Drop-offs

Holiday Hours for Kane County Electronics Recycling Drop-offs

Probably, you’re super-focused right now about purchasing electronics for Christmas rather than recycling your old electronics. But pretty soon — and maybe even now if you’re done with your holiday shopping — you’re starting to think about dropping off that TV or VCR that’s been sitting in your basement since the ’90s, or maybe getting rid of some of those old holiday lights that you’re not using anymore.

The old news is that Kane County has three awesome electronics recycling locations. The more-immediate news is that those sites have some limits on their days of operation during the next few weeks.

Holiday Hours for Electronics Drop-offs

wdunload0The Kane County Electronics Recycling Drop-offs are open Monday through Friday every week, except for a couple upcoming closures for the holidays. Please note that all three locations will be closed on the Monday after Christmas: Dec. 26, 2016. They will also be closed Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, and Monday, Jan. 16, 2017.

The cost for recycling television sets and computer monitors is $25 for screens that measure under 21 inches diagonally. The cost is $35 for screens measuring 21 inches or more diagonally. You can pay at site with cash or card only or pay online in advance at countyofkane.org/Recycling.

  • Hours:  8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday

South Elgin Public Works

  • Address: 735 Martin Drive, South Elgin, IL 60177 (Old Public Works Department)

About the Recycling Fees for TVs and Monitors

The fee that you pay for TVs and computer monitors — both tube and flat screen — goes directly to the county’s contracted electronics recycler, eWorks, a non-profit whose main mission is to employ developmentally disabled individuals. All other acceptable electronic items can be dropped off for free. See the full list of items that can be recycled in the program here. And Kane County takes holiday light strands!

Next Recycling Event

The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at the branch court office at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles. This event will be for electronics and books only.
