Lisle Man Pleads Guilty to Child Sex Trafficking
A Lisle man will go to prison for traveling, arranging and paying for a sexual encounter with children.
William Shyu, 32, of the 3000 block of Tangley Oaks Trail, Lisle, on Friday (Dec. 2, 2016) agreed to a sentence of seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to involuntary sexual servitude of a minor, a Class X felony.
Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti accepted the plea.
Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Christine Bayer stated during the plea hearing that on March 27, 2015, Shyu drove to an Aurora hotel, met with a person he believed was the mother of two minor girls, confirmed with that person that he wanted sexual favors for 30 minutes with the two minor girls in exchange for $100, and paid the person $100 in cash. He was then arrested by officers from Homeland Security Investigations and the Aurora Police Department.
When interviewed by police, Shyu acknowledged that his intent was to engage in sexual conduct with the children.
No minor was ever present with or had any contact with Shyu.
According to Illinois law, Shyu is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He receives credit for two days served in the Kane County jail. Shyu remains free on $40,000 bond. Judge Barsanti ordered Shyu to surrender to the court on Jan. 6, 2017, to begin serving his prison sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Bayer.
“Child sex trafficking — human trafficking of any kind — is unconscionable. Yet these crimes take place quite frequently in our communities, even here in Kane County. Our office, like law enforcement at all levels across the country, remains committed to wiping out child exploitation. This conviction sends a strong message that there is little tolerance for and acceptance of such dark behavior,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said.
