Aurora police are continuing their investigation and asking the public for information in the shooting of two Aurora men that occurred around 5:15 p.m. Jan. 2 that left one of the men dead.

Police responded to the area of Spring and State streets on the city’s Near East side for a report of a shooting with two men hit. Upon arrival, officers located William Radillo, 24, of the 800 block of Fifth Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A second victim, a 33-year-old Aurora man, was also located suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The men were taken to separate Aurora hospitals by Aurora Fire Department paramedics. Radillo was pronounced deceased at 5:51 p.m. while the other man is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Upon investigation, it was learned the two men were near a building on the northwest corner of State and Spring when they were approached by two males dressed in all dark clothing. At least one of the men opened fire on the pair before both suspects ran from the scene to a waiting SUV that was parked in an alley east of the shooting. The SUV then fled eastbound. Police are not releasing a further description of the SUV at this time.

Police are not ruling out gang motivation as a possible motive. The shooting does not appear to be related to the homicide that occurred on New Year’s Eve in the 400 block of Melrose.

Radillo was wheelchair bound due to injuries he suffered in a 2011 shooting.

An autopsy on Radillo is pending with the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
