Carpentersville Police: Arrest Made in Jan. 3 Shooting Incident

The Carpentersville Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Services have charged 22-year-old Stephen L. Brown of 411 W. 117th Street, Chicago, with multiple felonies in connection with a shooting that occurred on Jan. 3, 2017, at the Fox View Apartment Complex.

Law enforcers made the arrest at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.

During the investigation, Carpentersville Police Department detectives located the victim of the shooting, who was driven to a local hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the lower extremity. Detectives were able to identify Brown as the suspect using witness statements, security footage, and physical evidence from the crime scene.

The following criminal charges have been filed against Brown:

  • Aggravated Battery (Class X Felony)
  • Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm – at Person (Class X Felony)
  • Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm – Direction of Person (Class 1 Felony)

According to a Wednesday news release, Brown was expected to be taken before a judge for a bond-call hearing today (Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017).

The charges against Brown are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
