Elgin’s second homicide of 2016 has resulted in first-degree murder charges filed against an 18-year-old.

According to an Elgin Police Department news release, police responded at around 12:30 p.m. Dec. 27 to the 1600 block of Maple Lane for a report of an 18-year-old male subject who had been shot. After a review of the facts of the case, the Kane County States Attorney’s Office charged Anton Cross Jr. with two counts of first degree murder.

The juvenile was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center Detention Facility. A status hearing is set for Jan. 13 before Kane County Judge Donald Tegeler, according to court records.

An autopsy was performed on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the Kane County morgue, with the preliminary cause of death being “Gunshot Wound to Abdomen,” the Kane County Coroner’s Office said.

Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab.
