International Ski Jumping Event Postponed Due to Warm and Rainy Weather
For the first time in 112 years, Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove has been forced to postpone the Annual Winter Tournament due to the unseasonable weather.
The tournament had been scheduled for Jan. 21 and Jan. 22. It is now re-set for Feb. 11 and Feb. 12 at the ski club located at 100 Ski Hill Road, just north of the Kane County line.
The ski club is a bigtime venue for ski jumping and hosts events including the Junior National Qualifier and many national and international ski-jumping competitions. Ski jumpers from around the world compete on the club’s 70-meter hill.
The ski club has the ability to produce artificial snow, but the warm and wet weather of recent days proved too much to overcome.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago, the Kane County area will see unseasonably warm temperatures throughout this week, with chances of rain on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The high temperature on Saturday (Jan. 21, 2017) is expected to reach 54 degrees.
The weather has put a damper on winter activities throughout Kane County, including sledding, snow mobiling, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, snow boarding, ice fishing and ice skating. For more information and a brochure on winter activities available at Kane County forest preserves, visit this page of the Forest Preserve District website.

About Norge Ski Club
Norge Ski Club is the oldest, continuously open ski club in the United States.
The club was started in 1905 by a group of Norwegian men. Most lived in Chicago and came out to Fox River Grove to ski jump. They created cottages on the club grounds to give them a place to stay while they were working on building up the club grounds or just having fun ski jumping. Over the years, men and women of all nationalities have joined the club to experience the thrills and enjoyment of ski jumping.
