• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

Trying to get Kris, a 1-year-old pit bull-mix, to stop wagging his tail long enough to take a photo is nearly impossible. His happy personality shines through his eyes as he stares at you waiting for that too long-delayed moment when you finally reach down and pet him. But, don’t expect him to stop wagging his hind-end any time during the entire petting session. That would be too much to ask of this mild-mannered fellow.

Arriving at KCAC as a stray, Kris is a sweet and gentle boy that loves as much attention as possible, but is perfectly content to kick back and relax with his human companions. He hasn’t shed his puppyish behavior yet, so the more exercise and training he gets from his new family the better since he still has a lot of energy to burn.

His most favorite pastime is exploring the great outdoors with his people as he excitedly follows his nose, taking in all the smells he encounters. One can only imagine the incredible adventures that will unfold for Kris when he finds his forever home.

Lil’ Wayne, the 1-year-old Pomeranian with a big-dog personality is happily in his forever home. Kisses for everyone, Wayne!

Stella, the little calico with a big inquisitive spirit that got her in more trouble than Dora the Explorer found her forever family last week. She’s probably happily knocking stuff off tables as we speak. Have a wonderful, fun-filled life, Stella!

Johnson, KCAC’s attention-seeking black kitten also found as a stray, was adopted by the same family as Stella. Congratulations, Johnny! We knew you for such a short time, but we wish all of your nine lives a lifetime of happiness.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee for dogs is $200 and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300 and it is $150 to adopt two cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
