The first incident occurred on the 1400 block of Raymond, and the two females were able to gain entry by talking to the elderly female, according to a news release from the South Elgin Police Department. One of the suspects distracted the elderly victim while the other asked to use the bathroom and returned after a period of time. The victim went into her bedroom after the women left and discovered that someone had gone through her possessions and left many of the boxes and drawers open.

The second incident took place on the 600 block of Elizabeth Street, where two females knocked on the door and alleged to be with Medicare to help the elderly female, South Elgin police said.

“The elderly female (resident) was astute enough to notice that neither female had any identification on them and did not let them enter the door,” the news release said.

Both of the alleged scammers entered a silver pickup with an older male driver in the truck and drove away. The vehicle was described as a four-door, older model silver truck with a copper/gold emblem on the grille.

The subjects were described as follows:

• Female white “possibly Hispanic,” 50 to 55 years of age, gray shirt, gray pants.
• Female white “possibly Hispanic,” 25 to 30 years of age, gray shirt, gray pants, red satchel purse.
• Male white “possibly Hispanic,” with darker skin, middle aged.

“It is a reminder that this time of year is a typical part of year where citizens are targeted through Internal Revenue Service phone scams, lottery scams and medicare/insurance ploys,” the South Elgin Police Department said. “Please speak with your family members, or the local police department before sending out any money via Western Union or any other means.”

Persons Posing as ‘Healthcare’ Workers Were Not Kane County Health Department Employees

 The Kane County Health Department is advising residents that it has been made aware by the South Elgin Police Department of a potential scam in which people posing as “Kane County Healthcare” workers tried to gain access to someone’s home.

Kane County Health Department Executive Director Barbara Jeffers said these were not Kane County Health Department employees.

Jeffers said she would like to assure residents that department staff will make appointments before any home visits, that staff members always carry proper identification and that they travel in vehicles clearly marked with Health Department logos.

“If there is ever any question as to someone’s identification, do not allow them into your home and never hesitate to contact the police and the Health Department,” Jeffers said.
