UPDATE: North Aurora Police Release Images From Drive-By Shooting
The North Aurora Police Department continues to investigate a drive-by shooting that critically injured a Montgomery woman at about 8:42 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 14, 2017) in the 1000 block of Orchard Road.
The victim vehicle, a red 2015 Mazda CX-6 sport utility vehicle, stopped at a convenience store and had just parked when a burgundy 2013 Chrysler 200 drove through the parking lot as a back seat passenger fired five to 10 shots at the Mazda before fleeing from the area.
The driver of the Mazda was struck in the head by a bullet and was taken to an Aurora area hospital by North Aurora Fire Department paramedics. She was later transported to a suburban hospital, where she has been upgraded to stable condition.
Detectives believe that the people in the Mazda were targeted by the suspects and that this was not a random act.
A short time later, after a suspect vehicle description was broadcast, an Aurora Police officer spotted it on the west side of Aurora. The suspect vehicle fled and a short pursuit ensued, ending in the 800 block of Randall Road, where four occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. The resulting foot chase and area search was unsuccessful.
The North Aurora Police Department is releasing two images from an Aurora police squad video of the suspects as they jumped out of the moving vehicle and detectives are asking the public for help in identifying them.
In addition, detectives are seeking witnesses that may have seen the victims’ Mazda or the suspects’ Chrysler either before, during, or after the shooting.
This incident remains under investigation by the North Aurora Police Department.
