‘One Earth Film Festival’ Makes Debut in Kane County

Now that the drama and mishaps of this week’s Oscars ceremony are behind us, perhaps you are looking for a new film-related topic to discuss around the office water cooler.

If so, you are in luck! The Midwest’s premier environmental film fest returns this week to the Chicago area for its sixth dynamic season, and this year, it’s reaching Kane County for the first time!

The One Earth Film Festival runs March 3 through March 12, featuring 30 films in 47 screenings at 39 venues throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. The festival continues to use the power of film to shed light on the environmental challenges of the day and to highlight promising solutions.

This year’s event will include a FREE screening of the acclaimed documentary Hometown Habitat: Stories of Bringing Nature Home at 7 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Waubonsee Community College’s downtown Aurora campus, 18 S. River Street.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a Sustainability Resource Fair, featuring a dozen local environmental organizations.

The Aurora event will be extra special since the award-winning director of Hometown Habitat, Catherine Zimmerman, will be on site for a Q&A session following the screening.

Zimmerman and her film crew traveled across the country to visit local heroes who are reversing detrimental impacts on the land and in major watersheds one garden at a time. One of these stories is set right here in Illinois, where Zimmerman interviewed Vicky and George Ranney about the Prairie Crossing conservation community in Grayslake.

Seating is limited. Tickets are FREE with a suggested donation of $6 per person. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended – reserve your tickets online here.
