Power Outage in Geneva Quickly Fixed; Small Fire Put Out at Geneva High School

A fallen tree limb is believed to be responsible for knocking down a power line that caused an electric outage early today (Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017) on the northwest side of Geneva.

The initial outage, which impacted 621 customers, took place around 6:25 a.m. from Anderson Boulevard west to Highbury Lane and from State Street north to Gray Street. Power was restored to 565 customers by about 7:30 a.m., but 56 customers on Anderson Boulevard, Richards Street and Center Street were not expected to be back online until closer to 9:30 a.m.

The power outage also resulted in a small electric motor to overheat and start on fire at Geneva High School this morning. The fire was extinguished quickly by school personnel, but some smoke had entered the building. The Geneva Fire Department responded to the scene immediately to help ventilate and inspect the building. After the scene was cleared, students were allowed back in the classrooms for first period.
