Waubonsee Community College commuters and other drivers in the Sugar Grove area should be prepared for seven months of Bliss — road construction and bridge replacement on Bliss Road, that is — starting next week.

The Kane County Division of Transportation says the roadwork will start the week of Monday, March 27, 2017, and will begin on Bliss Road from Capitol Drive to about 350 feet northeast of the entrance of the Bliss Roads Forest Preserve within the village of Sugar Grove.

During the work, there may be temporary single-lane closures with flaggers directing traffic. Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The work is expected to take about seven months to complete.

Initial work will include setting up erosion and traffic controls, water main installation, storm sewer replacement, installation of temporary pavements and other roadway work. Completion of this first stage of work is targeted for late spring, weather permitting.

Once the initial stage is complete, construction activities will focus on the replacement of the bridge over Blackberry Creek. A followup news release and additional signage will be provided prior to any new traffic pattern changes due the bridge replacement construction activities.

Bliss Road will remain open during construction, but may be reduced to one lane of travel using temporary daily lane closures. Motorist need to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Motorist must watch for construction workers, construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Motorists should expect delays while traveling through the work areas and may want to add additional time to their commutes or consider using alternate routes while this work is being completed.
