Carpentersville Police: Investigation Leads to Seizure of Heroin

Two Carpentersville men have been arrested after searches of their residences yielded approximately 3 kilograms of heroin and more than $10,000 in cash.

On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, members of the Carpentersville Police Department, assisted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, gained consent to search a residence located between the 0-100 block of Wren Rd. The search led to the discovery of two kilograms of heroin.

Upon further investigation, a second consent search was conducted in the 2100 block of Morningside Lane, resulting in the seizure of an additional kilogram of heroin and $10,000 in cash. The estimated street value of the approximately three kilograms of heroin seized between both searches is approximately $400,000.

Mario Betancourt, 37, and Misael Oropez-Garcia, 31, both of Carpentersville, were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Heroin: 900 grams or more (Class X Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Heroin: 900 grams or more (Class 1 Felony)The above charges have been authorized by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Bond was set at $4 million each on Thursday morning. Both men were transported to the Kane County Jail while they await their April 5 court date.

The Carpentersville Police Department reminds residents that an arrest is not evidence of guilt, and all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
