GRAND JURY INDICTS AURORA MAN FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

FIRED SHOTS AT PASSING CAR IN MARCH 2015

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has secured the indictment of an Aurora man for attempted murder and multiple gun offenses from a March 2015 incident.

A Kane County grand jury indicted Anibal Ramos, 20, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony, aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony, unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member, a Class 2 felony, and unlawful possession of a firearm without a FOID, a Class 3 felony.

Prosecutors allege that just before 1 a.m. March 1, 2015, Ramos fired multiple shots from a 9mm handgun at a white sedan as it traveled north on South LaSalle Street in the vicinity of Bluff Street.

Following the indictment, a judge set Ramos’ bail at $500,000, with 10 percent ($50,000) to apply for bond.

Ramos’ initial court appearance has not been set.

If convicted of the most serious offense, Ramos faces a minimum sentence of 26 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The charges against Ramos are not proof of guilt. Ramos is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
