North Aurora Residents Might See Orangish Water During Tower Painting Project

If you live in North Aurora and see some orange color in your tap water some time during the next six to eight weeks, don’t be alarmed. It’s just a little iron due to the North Aurora Auto Mall Water Tower painting project.

The village sent an e-newsletter Tuesday (March 28, 2017) to let residents know the project is under way and to ask their help in conserving water during the six- to eight-week project.

In order to complete the project, the water tower is being taken out of service, and the village will be operating with only the East Side water tower.

“During this time, water flow may change as the water travels through the distribution system and residents may notice some iron (orange color) in the water,” the village said. “Please know that this is not harmful, and should clear itself within a few days.”

Also, during the project, the village’s water storage capacity will be reduced. Due to this decrease in water storage, the village is asking residents to voluntarily curtail any lawn watering and unnecessary water usage (such as car washing, power washing decks or hosing out garages) until the project is completed.

Once the water tower painting project is complete and the tower is back in service, residents may resume normal water usage.

“This project is necessary in the village’s ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance our water towers, which allows the village to continue to provide quality water service to our residents,” the news release said. “The village appreciates your cooperation as we complete this project.”

Residents with concerns should contact the village of North Aurora Water Department at 630-897-8228, Ext. 229.
