WATCH: Aurora Mayor O’Connor’s State of the City Address

Aurora Mayor Bob O’Connor’s State of the City Address delivered a live stream video on the city’s website and YouTube page Wednesday, March 22, 2017, that included a slick introductory video and the promise of a “strong future” as the city prepares for a new mayor in the coming weeks.

O’Connor said the state of the city is “excellent” and cited numerous accomplishments of the past year and beyond, including but not limited to awards for Aurora’s downtown bicycle lane system, the opening of the 60-unit Aurora St. Charles Senior Living Center, the year-long celebration of the 25th anniversary of Wayne’s World movie, Fire Department equipment upgrades, and overall decrease in violent crime, increases in business development including the anticipated opening of two Amazon fulfillment centers, investment in the Paramount Theatre’s school for performing arts and the Aurora’s ranking as one of the nation’s best big cities for families.

O’Connor is filling the balance of Mayor Tom Weisner’s term in office. Weisner stepped down in early November, in part due to a long battle with cancer.

Two candidates are vying for mayor in the April 4 consolidated election: Richard Irvin and Richard Guzman. Irvin and Guzman advanced from a four-candidate Feb. 28 primary, defeating candidates Linda Chapa Lavia and and Michael Saville.

The State of the City Address was hosted by the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce. A video of the address, including the introductory remarks and video, is embedded above.
