Who’s On the April 4 Ballot? Kane County Municipal Races at a Glance
- Editor’s Note: This article is part of a series informing Kane County residents “who’s on the ballot” in the variety of contests that will appear on the April 4 consolidated election ballot. The primary sources are the Kane County Clerk’s Office election webpages and the Aurora Election Commission website. Kane County Connects encourages citizens to visit those sites and other media to find out more about the candidates and issues.
The April 4 municipal elections in Kane County feature some interesting races, and with less than a month until Election Day, voters might want to start boning up on the candidates and referendums that are on the ballot.
There are important contests for mayor, city council and other key municipal-government roles in the cities Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Elgin and St. Charles.
Likewise, village presidents and trustees are among those vying for key offices in the villages of Algonquin, Barrington Hills, Bartlett, Big Rock, Burlington, Carpentersville, Campton Hills, East Dundee, Elburn, Gilberts, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Kaneville, Lily Lake, Maple Park, Montgomery, North Aurora, Pingree Grove, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, Sugar Grove, Virgil, Wayne and West Dundee.
“Wait, what?” I hear you say. “Hoffman Estates? Isn’t that in Cook County? Isn’t Wayne in DuPage County?”
Well, yes, most of Wayne is in DuPage and most of Hoffman Estates is in Cook, and there are a number of others on the list above that you might not associate with Kane County, IL. Yet, at least a little bit of their footprint is in Kane County, so they’re on the ballots that the Kane County Clerk’s Office has to count.
The other election body in Kane County is the Aurora Election Commission, which tabulates results within the boundaries of the city of Aurora AND within Kane, Will and Kendall counties. Just to make things complicated, DuPage County tabulates the votes for folks who live inside the city of Aurora and DuPage County.
The purpose of this and future Kane County Connects articles is to make things a little simpler and help you find additional information so that you can do your own research and make informed decisions on April 4.
What follows is a list of candidates for municipal elections in Kane County, as presented on the Kane County Clerk’s Office. Because Aurora just completed a primary election, the Aurora Election Commission website had not yet posted sample ballots or candidate lists for the April 4 election at the time this article was put together. Kane County Connects will add that information when it becomes available.
