April 4 Election Results: A Roundup of Municipal Races in Kane County, IL
- Editor’s Note: The following is a roundup of election results from the April 4, 2017, consolidated election based on information available April 5 on the Kane County Clerk’s Office “2017 Consolidated Election Contest Results” Page, the Aurora Election Commission’s Election Results Page, the DuPage County Election Results Page, the Cook County Election Results page, the McHenry County Election Results page, the Lake County Election Results page and the Kendall County Election Results page.
According to unofficial results as posted on the election websites in Aurora, Kane County and DuPage County, Richard Irvin won one of the main events in the April 4 consolidated election, defeating Rick Guzman by just 170 votes. Folks in Geneva are still buzzing over the $21.8 million library construction referendum that passed by a unofficial margin of 3,862-3,763.
But there were literally scores of other contests decided Tuesday, with results that are very important to the candidates, their families and the citizens of Kane County. There are too many of those to list here, but you can visit the links of these websites to find the final tallies.

Cities
Aurora
While the mayoral race captured most people’s attention, there were some alderman contests worthy of note.
As mentioned in the mayoral race post on KCC, the Aurora Election Commisson tabulates votes in the Kane, Kendall and Will county portions of the city, while DuPage County tabulates votes in its portion of Aurora. That applies to aldermanic contests in which the ward straddles DuPage and Kane.
In Aurora’s 10th Ward, for example, the winner was Judd Lofchie over Keith Bradley and Richard H. Paolicchi, with the majority of votes coming on the DuPage side. Here’s the unofficial breakdown, according to the websites:
- Judd Lofchie — 88 AEC + 654 DuPage = 742 total *
- Keith Bradley — 12 AEC + 615 DuPage = 627 total
- Richard H. Paolicchi — 256 AEC + 178 DuPage = 434 total
In other contested municipal races:
Robert O’Conner defeated Matt Harrington in the race for alderman at large by a margin of 8,875-4,065 . Those are the combined totals from DuPage and the AEC.
Batavia
Like Aurora, the mayoral race was the marquee event, where incumbent Mayor Jeffery Schielke defeated Jason Stoops 2,354-1,295.
The only contested aldermanic race in Batavia was in the First Ward, where Scott Salvati defeated Carl Dinwiddie 456-282, according to the unofficial totals posted on the Kane County Clerk’s Office website.
Elgin
The big race in Elgin was for City Council, where seven candidates were vying for four seats. The winners, according to unofficial totals in Kane and Cook counties, were Richard G. Dunne, Terry Gavin, Carol Rauschenberger and Corey Dixon. Dunn, Rauschenberger and Dixon are incumbents, Gavin is new to the City Council.
- Brandon J. Yaniz — 1,984 in Kane + 270 in Cook County = 2,254 total
- Richard G. Dunne — 3,516 in Kane + 538 in Cook County = 4,054 total *
- Terry Gavin — 2,991 in Kane + 533 in Cook County = 3,524 total *
- John Prigge — 2,235 in Kane + 356 in Cook County= 2,591 total
- Brenda Rodgers — 2,771 in Kane + 472 in Cook County = 3,248 total
- Carol Rauschenberger — 3,985 in Kane + 690 in Cook County = 4,675 total *
- Corey Dixon — 3,503 in Kane + 617 in Cook County = 4,125 total *
Geneva
Mayor Kevin Burns held off a challenge from Fifth Ward Alderman Thomas Simonian on Tuesday night, but the aldermanic races were headline news, as well, because there were contests in all five Geneva wards.
Burns’ coattails might have had at least some effect on the election results, because two incumbents who supported Simonian — Mary Seno and Ron Singer — lost their bids for re-election.
The results in the Geneva aldermanic contests are as follows:

St. Charles
There were two contested races for alderman in St. Charles. The winners were Arthur J. Lemke in Ward 2 and Lora A. Vitek in Ward 4.

Villages
Algonquin
The big municipal race in Algonquin was for Village Board, where six candidates vied for three seats. The winners Tuesday were Lauran Brehmer, Jerry Glogowski and Janis Jasper, according to unofficial totals.
Here are the results:
- Brian J. Dianis — 127 Kane + 643 McHenry = 770 total
- Laura Brehmer — 512 Kane+ 453 McHenry = 965 total *
- Jerry Glogowski — 146 in Kane + 731 McHenry = 877 total *
- Robert M. (Bob) Smith —138 Kane + 671 McHenry = 809 total
- Greg Ligman — 439 Kane + 289 McHenry = 728 total
- Janis Jasper— 479 Kane + 391 McHenry = 870 total *
Barrington Hills
Martin J. McLaughlin defeated Louis Iacovelli in the race for village president 556-491 in unofficial totals.
The trustee race features seven candidates (including one write-in) vying for three seats. As of Wednesday, the trustee race was too close to call, but the candidates are:

Carpentersville
Former Carpentersville Fire Chief John M. Skillman defeated incumbent Village President Edward M. Ritter 1,083-436.
The trustee race featured four candidates competing for three seats. The winners were Patricia A. Schultz, Kevin Rehberg and Diane Lawrence.

In Elburn, village Trustee Jeffrey D. Walter gathered 357 votes, defeating Christopher G. Mondi with 195 and David J. Gualdoni with 139.
Three of four candidates won election to the Elburn Village Board. They are Patricia (Pat) J. Schuberg, Matthew Wilson and Kenneth N. Anderson, Jr.

Two candidates competed for one, two year seat. The winner in that race was Erik J. Robinson.
