Carpentersville Seeks Candidates For 3 Open Commission Seats
The village of Carpentersville is seeking candidates interested in serving on the Business Development Commission, Audit and Finance Commission, and Parks and Special Events Commission.
Each commission consists of members appointed by the village president and confirmed by the Board of Trustees. Terms are generally two years; however, the candidate selected to fill the vacant Audit and Finance Commission seat will need to be re-appointed in November.
The following is a little background information on each commission:
- The Business Development Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the village president and Board of Trustees, and assists the director of economic development by reviewing and making recommendations relating to the following: programs that both revitalize existing businesses while attracting new businesses to the commercial and industrial zoning districts; commercial site selection; and standards for use in evaluating the economic impact of proposed or expanding businesses. The BDC also works collaboratively with existing business associations within the village. Meetings are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m.
- The Audit and Finance Commission provides an ongoing link between the independent auditor of the village’s financial statements, the village president and Board of Trustees, and the village’s management staff. The commission advises and assists the village president and Board of Trustees in the maintenance of a sound tax structure and overall fiscal policy for the village. Meetings are generally held on the second Thursday of February, March, April, July, October, and November at 7 p.m.
- The Parks and Special Events Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the village president and Board of Trustees in addition to village staff in the planning, scheduling, and organizing of community events within the village. Meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
In order to be eligible to apply for one of the three vacant Commission seats, you must be a village of Carpentersville resident for at least one year (or in the case of the BDC, an owner of a business within village limits), be able to commit to making a majority of the meetings, and have both the interest and qualifications needed to be a valuable asset to the commission.
Those who wish to be considered for an appointment to any of the three commissions should submit a letter of interest to:
