Kane Ranked 7th Best County To Raise a Family In Illinois
Kane County is No. 1 in our hearts, but where does it rank in the 2017 Niche list of Best Counties to Raise a Family in Illinois?
No. 7, apparently.
Niche uses data from the U.S. Census, FBI, BLS, CDC, and other data sources to rank counties based on “a comprehensive assessment of key factors that are meaningful for families at the county level.” The grade takes into account the quality of local schools, safety, affordability, and access to family amenities, in an attempt to measure the appeal of an area for families. Kane County’s overall grade was A-minus. Not too shabby, with “A” grades in schools, “good for families,” outdoor activities, nightlife, diversity, and health and fitness. We earned “B” grades in jobs, crime and safety, and commute. We landed “C” grades for housing, cost of living and weather.
Not much we can do about the weather, sorry to say.
Who was No. 1 on the Niche ranking this year? Our neighbor county of DuPage. Lake was No. 2, followed by Kendall, McHenry, McLean and Will.
There are 102 counties in Illinois. Here’s a list of the 25 “best,” according to Niche.
