Weather Service: We’re Not Out of the Woods For Last Spring Freeze of 2017
The growing season is beginning across the area.
If you are a home gardener, keep in mind that freezing temperatures have occurred into the first half of May across portions of northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana in the past.
In Kane County, the “normal date” of the last freeze of the season is April 30.
Right now, the chances are about 50-50 that we’re all done with freezing temperatures until autumn 2017.
The probabilities of freezing temperatures drop significantly over the area — below 25 percent — after the first week of May.
That said, we’re supposed to get close to freezing temperatures this weekend, with overnight lows of 38 on tap Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, according to the NWS Chicago forecast for Kane County as of Wedensday, April 19.
