Tragedy in Carpentersville: 2-Year-Old Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident
The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the 2-year-old boy who was tragically struck and killed Monday (May 22, 2017) by a pickup truck in a suburban Carpentersville neighborhood.
According to news releases by the Coroner’s Office and Carpentersville Police Department, Levi Cruz was struck by a vehicle at around 9:43 a.m. Monday in the 1000 block of Deer Creek Drive near the intersection of Deer Creek Drive and Rosewood Drive.
Carpentersville police officers arrived on the scene and immediately began to administrator emergency first aid to the victim. Carpentersville Fire Department paramedics transported Cruz to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
“The incident that resulted in the death of a young child today (Monday) in our community was not the result of a speeding or reckless vehicle,” the Carpentesrville Police Department posted on the Village of Carpentersville Pulic Safety Facebook page. “The incident is a family tragedy that the police department is fully investigating. As a result of the nature of the investigation, the Police Department is limited from releasing much, if any, information at this time.
“No one is in custody at this time and the Police Department is not looking for an offender.”
The Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined the preliminary cause of death as “multiple injuries due to an auto striking a pedestrian.” Toxicology samples were sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
The incident is being investigated by the Carpentersville Police Department, assisted by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Corner’s Office.
