After a combined 20 years as Geneva’s city clerk from 1985-93 and again from 2005 until this year, Lynn Landberg has decided he will not to seek another term in office.

Maybe folks decided Landberg’s shoes were too big to fill, because no one filed for the office in the April 4 consolidated elections. That leaves the city seeking candidates for the seat.

The City Clerk attends all City Council meetings (and others as required) and prepares full records of those meetings. The City Clerk’s annual salary is $3,600, and the term for this unfilled position runs through May 3, 2021.

Geneva residents interested in serving as City Clerk should submit an application, a current resume and a letter of interest to Mayor Kevin Burns, City of Geneva, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134; Attn: City Clerk Vacancy. The deadline is Thursday, June 1.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to be considered for the position:

• Have resided within the corporate boundaries of the City of Geneva for at least one year prior to appointment;
• Be a legal U.S. citizen;
• Be a registered voter;
• Have no felony convictions; and
• Be current on taxes and payments to the City.

In addition, the Government Ethics Act requires a statement of economic interest to be filed by the City Clerk with the Kane County Clerk’s Office.

The successful candidate for City Clerk will be appointed by Mayor Burns with the advice and consent of the City Council.
