Carpentersville Police Chief Michael J. Kilbourne has been selected to serve in leadership roles for two prominent law enforcement organizations: North East Multi-Regional Training and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

“Taking on these additional leadership roles at the statewide level is a great opportunity to further advance the profession of law enforcement in Illinois,” Kilbourne said.

On April 28, Kilbourne was appointed to serve on the Executive Board of Directors for North East Multi-Regional Training. NEMRT provides in-service training to law enforcement and corrections personnel throughout the metropolitan Chicago land area.

As a member of the Executive Board, Kilbourne will chair the Finance and Audit Committee, which is responsible for the development, writing, and submission of the corporation’s annual budget and grant application. Kilbourne has been serving on the committee for the past three years; his appointment will be up in 2019.

“Chief Kilbourne is a dedicated professional who thrives when presented with new challenges and responsibility,” said Village Manager Mark Rooney. “He is exceptionally skilled and experienced in pension matters, and is extremely conscientious about doing his due diligence and researching all avenues when submitting plans to improve the efficiency and performance of the Village’s pension funds.”

Kilbourne has also been selected to represent the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police on the Illinois Terrorism Task Force. The ITTF serves as an advisory body to the Governor, the governor’s homeland security advisor, and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, providing recommendations and guidance on homeland security laws, policies, protocol, and procedures.

Kilbourne has been a member of the IACP for the past five years. His appointment to the ITTF was made official on May 3.

“Chief Kilbourne is a team player who fosters cooperation and harmony throughout our organization; I am confident his leadership style will be a tremendous asset for the Illinois Terrorism Task Force,” Rooney said.
