DETOUR ALERT: IDOT Shuts Down Route 38 For West Chicago Railroad Repair Project

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a full closure will take place on Roosevelt Road (Route 38) at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks located west of Neltor Boulevard (Route 59) in West Chicago, beginning today (Monday, May 1, 2017).

The closure is necessary to repair a badly deteriorated at-grade crossing.

Beginning May 1, Route 38 will be fully closed between Kirk Road and Route 59. A posted detour will direct eastbound Route 38 traffic to go north on Kirk Road, east on North Avenue (Route 64) and south on Route 59 to meet back with Roosevelt Road. Westbound Route 38 traffic will take the reverse route.

The full closure will be in place until Monday, May 8, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
