AURORA MAN AWAITS PRISON FOR SEX ASSAULT OF CHILD

MINIMUM SENTENCE IS 18 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT

A Kane County jury has convicted an Aurora man for sexually assaulting a child he knew.

The jurors deliberated for about an hour this afternoon before convicting 31-year-old Angel Gallegos Ortiz of three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, each a Class X felony.

Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that between August 2013 and April 2015, Gallegos Ortiz sexually assaulted the child, whom he knew. The victim was younger than 13 years old.

Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler, Jr., set Gallegos Ortiz’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. July 20, 2017, for motions and sentencing. Gallegos Ortiz faces a sentence of between 18 and 180 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In addition to the prison term, Gallegos Ortiz must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

Gallegos Ortiz remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $300,000 bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Lori Schmidt and Reagan Pittman, who are assigned to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
