KANE COUNTY RAINFALL TOTALS: 4.67 Inches in North Aurora Over 2 Days
More than 4.6 inches if rain fell in North Aurora during the two-day period from Saturday, April 29, to Sunday, April 30, 2017, the National Weather Service Chicago reports.
North Aurora’s totals were among the highest in the area. The most rain came in central LaSalle County, including 5.34 inches in LaSalle.
Aurora recorded the second-highest totals in Kane, with 4.11 inches. Batavia was third with 3.87 inches.
The two-day totals over the Chicago area were the highest for any time in the year since April 17-18, 2013, when the total was 5.5 inches. The April 29-30, 2017, totals are the fifth-highest two-day total ever recorded in April for our neck of the woods.
As of today (Monday, May 1, 2017) a Flood Warning is in effect for the Fox River at Algonquin Tailwater affecting Kane and McHenry counties and the Fox River at Montgomery affecting Kane and Kendall counties. The river is expected to peak sometime tomorrow (Tuesday, May 2).
The good news is that the rain is expect to hold off until Saturday.
Here are some additional fast facts, courtesy of the NWS Chicago:
- Multiple periods of moderate to heavy rain, at times occurring with thunder, fell across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana during the weekend of April 29-30.
- Two-day rain totals of 1.50 inches to more than 5 inches were observed across the entire area, with the heaviest of inches to 5-plus inches centered on the Illinois River Valley to Chicago during the afternoon and evening of April 29.
- The highest rainfall amounts were in central LaSalle County including 5.34 inches in LaSalle, 4.90 inches near Ottawa, and 4.74 inches in Peru.
- Chicago (O’Hare) officially recorded 3.27 inches of rainfall.
- The rainfall brought localized flooding in numerous locations as well as sharp rises on area rivers, especially tributaries of the Illinois River and the Illinois River itself.
- Gusty winds were observed on Saturday evening, April 29. The highest gusts were between 40 mph and 55 mph.
