KDOT Road Construction Update: May 2017

  • Each month, the Kane County Division of Transportation provides the county’s Transportation Committee with an update on road work throughout the county and a look ahead at the project scope and duration. Here’s a summary of that report, with text and images provided by KDOT.

Resurfacing Begins

Work on Kane County’s annual resurfacing program began in April and includes more than 20 miles of roadway resurfacing and/or guardrail work on portions of the following routes: Ellithorpe Road, Peplow Road, Scott Road, Fabyan Parkway, Hughes Road, Perry Road and Harter Road.

In order to replace the old pavement, the contractor will first mill and prepare the roadway involving temporary daily lane closures with flaggers directing traffic.

This work is anticipated to take approximately five months to complete, weather permitting.

Water Main Work on Bliss Road Over Blackberry Creek

Water main work and utility relocation is currently under way on the Bliss Road over Blackberry Creek bridge replacement. The bridge demolition work is anticipated to start mid-May, weather permitting and the project is anticipated to be complete by fall 2017.

Longmeadow Parkway Corridor

Work continues to move forward for the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor with roadway widening/reconstruction from west of Randall Road to Karen Drive.

Construction began with the placement of silt filter fencing and topsoil striping for a box culvert construction, and will be followed by pavement removal and temporary widening along Randall and Sleepy Hollow Roads later this month, weather permitting.

Anticipated completion date is fall 2017.

Work Zone Safety

Drivers in these project areas should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

Kane County reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
