Pingree Grove Teen Driver Killed, 5 Teens Injured in Hampshire Township Crash
A 17-year-old teenager was killed and five other teenage girls injured in a Thursday-night crash on Dietrich Road between IL Route 20 and Brier Hill Road in unincorporated Hampshire Township.
According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office’s initial investigation, a 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by Brianna Soto, 17, of Pingree Grove was traveling east on Dietrich Road about to go over the crest of a hill when it crossed the center line and went partially into the westbound lane of traffic. The Corolla struck a 2005 Ford SUV driven by a 16-year-old female from Lake in the Hills that was traveling west on Dietrich Road.
The SUV, which contained a 17-year-old female passenger, rolled over and came to a rest on the north side of Dietrich Road. The Corolla, which contained 16-year-old passengers from Algonquin and Hampshire and a 15-year-old passenger from Huntley, rolled over and came to a rest on the south side of Dietrich Road, the Sheriff’s Office said.
All six subjects were transported to area hospitals. Soto was pronounced deceased at Centegra Hospital in Huntley. The other five teens were treated at Sherman Hospital in Elgin for non-life threatening injuries.
Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash. No tickets have been issued as the crash remains under investigation, but deputies do believe that distracted driving may have played a role in this crash. All the subjects in the crash were wearing their seatbelts.
