St. Charles Offers Residents Up to $100 Savings on ‘Smart’ Thermostats

The city of St. Charles is offering residents up to $100 in rebates to install a “smart” thermometer in their homes.

Thanks to grant funding from our electricity supplier, the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, the city is offering a $50 rebate for residential utility customers when they buy and install a Nest smart thermostat. Plus, Nicor has an additional $50 rebate offer.

What is the Nest? It’s a Wi-Fi-connected thermostat that learns the daily pattern of your air conditioning or heat settings. It also lets you manage those settings from a computer or smart phone. It will show you how much energy you use, and how to use less.

“The Nest thermostat is a convenient way for residents to better understand how they are using energy in their home and potentially save money annually on their heating and cooling costs,” said St. Charles Electric Services Manager Tom Bruhl. “We are glad to partner with our energy suppliers to bring our residents this money-saving offer.”

Visit the Nest website to learn more. St. Chalres residents can download the rebate application from the city’s website here. Applications can be mailed or emailed to Lisa Vielbig at lvielbig@stcharlesil.gov. For more information about the rebate program, contact Lisa at 630.377.4407.
