The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the person whose body was found shot and badly burned Wednesday (June 7, 2017) following a “suspicious” house fire near East Dundee.
According to a Monday news release from the Coroner’s Office, the deceased is Vesel Vejseli, 36, who lived at the house at 15W384 Richardson Drive in East Dundee.
Toxicology samples are being tested at the forensic lab. The preliminary cause of death is pending upon the completion of the medicolegal death investigation, the Coroner’s Office said.
Previous releases from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said the body of an unidentified person was removed Wednesday from the scene of a fire at 15N384 Richardson Dr. Initial reports indicated that the bodies of a person and a dog were found in the fire, which started shortly before 3:30 a.m. and was extinguished around 4:06 a.m. Wednesday.
Until Monday, neither the Kane County Sheriff’s Office nor the Coroner’s Office had indicated the gender of the deceased. A neighbor told WGN that a male in his 30s resided in the home with his pit bull dog.
“The decedent could not be identified due to the fire,” the Coroner’s Office said in the June 8 news release. An autopsy was performed, and a “gunshot projectile” was found inside the body, the June 8 news release said.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Illinois State Fire Marshall.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in or around the residence to please call detectives at 630-444-1103.
