2ND UPDATE: Thanks to Tips, Police File Charges in North Aurora Armed Robbery

The North Aurora Police Department announced today (Wednesday, June 14, 2017) that a suspect in the June 7 armed robbery of a liquor store in the 0-100 block of South Lincolnway has been arrested and is in custody.

Thanks to numerous tips from the public in the days following this incident, investigators from the North Aurora Police Department were able to identify the suspect as Jordan A. Burgos, 26, of the 0-100 block of Highview Dr., Yorkville. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Armed Robbery, a Class X felony, against Burgos, and on Monday a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Bail was set at $100,000.

The North Aurora Police Department late last week released store surveillance video from the armed robbery and asked the public to share information concerning the suspect’s whereabouts.

At 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, officers of the Aurora Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious person at a convenience store in the 900 block of South Lake Street (IL Route 31). The clerk recognized the suspect in this case from photos and videos in the media and called police. Upon arrival APD officers learned that the suspect had already left the store going southbound on Lake Street in a silver Audi.

While officers were viewing surveillance video in the store, another officer located the silver Audi driving north at Lake Street and Ashland Avenue, according to the North Aurora Police Department news release. After initiating a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as Burgos, did not stop, and a vehicle pursuit by Aurora and North Aurora Police ensued, the report said.

During the pursuit, Burgos refused to stop, crossed the double yellow lines, exceeded the speed limit, and drove through three red lights.

Burgos eventually pulled over at Lincolnway Airport Road in North Aurora and was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the North Aurora Police Department for booking and later transported to the Aurora Police Department to be held on charges of Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding (a Class 4 felony) and several traffic violations.

He is also being held on a parole violation (no bond) warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

“The North Aurora Police Department would like to acknowledge the media coverage, social media shares, and numerous tips from the public which helped identify Burgos and ultimately resulted in his arrest one week after the armed robbery,” North Aurora Police officer Scott Buziecki said in the news release. “The tips were vital to the case and are great examples of the public and police working together to make our communities safer.”

Criminal charges are merely accusations and Burgos is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The North Aurora Police Department late last week released store surveillance video from the armed robbery and asked the public to share information concerning the suspect’s whereabouts.

North Aurora Police Department officers had been dispatched at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday (June 6, 2017) to a store in the 0-100 block of South Lincolnway for a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a Hispanic male entered the store and, after walking around the store for a few minutes, approached the clerk to ask for a specific type of liquor and then left the store. He returned less than a minute later, displayed a gun, and demanded cash from the register.

The suspect then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. He was last seen running east toward the Fox River. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male with a full beard, wearing a white or gray hooded sweatshirt with “Nike” in large letters across the chest, a white Chicago Blackhawks hat, dark sunglasses, dark jeans and a glove on his right hand. He also appears to have a tattoo or writing on his left hand/wrist area.

The weapon was described as a black semi-automatic pistol with a plastic bag over the barrel.

A search of the area for the suspect was unsuccessful. Investigators obtained the attached images of the suspect from store surveillance video.
