4 Roads Closed June 10-14 for UP Railroad Track Repairs

The Union Pacific Railroad will close four roads in Kane County over a five-day period from Saturday, June 10, through Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in order to perform track repairs.

Weather permitting, closures are scheduled to take place at the following locations and times:

  • Francis Road (Virgil Township Road District) at the railroad crossing approximately 0.2 miles south of IL Route 38. The road is expected to be closed from 6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, through 6 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017.  The posted detour will use Beith Road, Thatcher Road, County Line Road and Keslinger Road.
  • Meredith Road (Kane County Highway No. 14) at the railroad crossing approximately 0.2 miles north of IL Route 38. The road is expected to be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 11. The posted detour will use Beith Road, Thatcher Road, County Line Road and Keslinger Road.
  • Howard Road (Virgil Township Road District) at the railroad crossing approximately 0.7 miles north of IL Route 38. The road is expected to be closed from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.  The posted detour will use IL Route 38, Meredith Road, McNulty Road, and Thatcher Road.
  • Thatcher Road (Kane County Highway No. 23) at the railroad crossing north of Main Street in the Village of Maple Park. The road is expected to be closed from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.  The posted detour will use County Line Road, Keslinger Road, Meredith Road, and Beith Road.

Work Zone Safety Alert

Drivers in this project area should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

KDOT reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
