Did you know there are many insects that help control garden pests? In fact, they outnumber damaging insects, especially in the right habitat.

In June, join Master Gardeners Sue Styer and Merrill Poloian to learn how insect hotels promote populations of these good guys, including pollinators. Participants will gain knowledge on beneficial insects, how insect hotels work, types of insect hotels, and common materials to use. Plus, build a small insect hotel to take home.

“We can greatly increase the number of beneficial insects in our yards and gardens by providing a place for them to live and thrive,” said Sarah Fellerer, Master Gardener Program Coordinator with University of Illinois Extension. “Program attendees will learn valuable information and put it to practice that night.”

The Insect Hotels workshop is designed for adults and will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8. at the University of Illinois Extension office in Kane County, located at 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. Registration is required, and space is limited.
