Day Trip Ideas: Kids Ride Free All Summer on Metra
Now that June has arrived, it’s time to start thinking about some of those fun day trips you can do with the kids. Or without, for that matter.
Kane County has easy access to the city on three Metra lines:
- The Milwaukee District West Line, which runs from Big Timber Road in Elgin to Union Station in Chicago.
- The Union Pacific West Line, which runs from Elburn to the Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago.
- The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Line, which runs from Aurora to Union Station in Chicago.
Now through Labor Day, up to three children 11 and under ride free every day with each adult. As always, with Metra’s unlimited ride Weekend Pass, you can ride all day on both Saturday and Sunday for $8.
You c buy the $8 Weekend Pass on the train, at a station or from your smartphone with the FREE Ventra App.
Here are a few tips for making transportation to Chicago easy, affordable and fun:
Bikes, Uber and Water Taxis
Conveniently located Divvy bike stations, water taxis and CTA connections make it easy to get to downtown destinations or take a test drive with Metra’s rideshare partner Uber. Download the app, request a ride and a nearby driver will arrive in minutes.
Enter promo code METRA2017 for your first ride free up to $15. Expires 12/31/17. Not valid on uberCAB.
Other Ideas For Fun
Another option is to just take Metra downtown and go on a walking tour to see some of the city’s best architecture, public art and other points of interest.
Visit Metra’s Travel Guides page that offers ideas and includes easy-to-use travel information from your downtown station to the fun Chicago locations you will be visiting this summer.
